What's the attraction to beer you ask? Interesting, considering I was a bourbon tragic for the first half of my drinking life. Not even free beer was enjoyable to me (mind you - the options in the late 80's were XXXX, or ....XXXX - at least until things declined with the uprising of Gold). Not a great starting point (sorry XXXX lovers!). I'd put it on a par with an introduction to bourbon via Real McCoy on the rocks. Some of you will understand that parallel.
It was actually a visit to my wife's Aunty in 1997, and a sampling of Home Brew Brigalow Lager that converted me. Surprisingly clear and refreshing, made with high quality rainwater - and 30c a stubbie! So began my love of brewing....and consuming BEER!
Having enjoyed experimenting with many variations in the brewing process - I likewise appreciate variety in drinking - from Stout to Draught, or Wheat to Bitter. Yet I still generally come back to a simple Lager or Pilsener.
As so many of us find, a superior level of intelligence is experienced - with profound thoughts flowing readily....no doubt triggered by the consumption of alcohol. I will endeavour to include one such thought on a daily basis.
Many beers will be a first for my palate - though I will certainly also include a few old favourites. I'd love for you to sample and rate the beers as we move through the year. Please feel free to jump on board and share the journey into the unknown!
